Marblehead, January 11, 1773. [Verse given after political
discussion.]
Stung with remorse, if you do want relief,
And headlong run to hang yourselves for grief,
Let me beseech you, stop a-while, lest you
Should deprive the hangman of his due.
He loves you so, that if you were to ask,
I'm certain he would ease you of the task.
